Starlite poa trivialis exhibits improved performance characteristics under typical golf course Bermudagrass winter overseeding programs.
It is dark in colour, fine textured and compact for better compatibility with leading perennial ryegrass varieties like Slam, Stellar and Flash II. Close mowing quality is excellent and transition back to Bermudagrass in late spring is smoother. Commonly used in mixtures for tee and green overseeding. Starlite can also be used as a monoculture, particularly on greens. Starlite tolerates colder environments and will persist in cool season regions, particularly in damp shaded sites.
Poa Trivialis tands to be more sensitive to heat and moisture stresses particularly in breezy low humidity environments. Thus the superindendent is oftentimes challenged to maintain poa trivialis health during the intitial bermudagrass greenup period. The following guidelines need to be observed;
Starlite will germinate in 7-10 days, with first mowing generally within 10 – 12 days. To overseed in warm season areas; as a monostand apply 8-15lbs per 1000 square feet initially, followed by dustings of 1-3lbs. In two, three, or even four followup applications as play dictates, in mixtures with bentgrass apply 50% by weight in mixtures with ryegrass apply 10 to 20% by weight. Sowing each species independently, at half rate, in two directions is preferred for maximum uniformity. To seed in cool season areas a 10% portion in mixtures is suggested for heavy shaded or moist applications. Sow at a rate of 2-3 lbs. Per 1000 square feet.
Used alone, Starlite withstands close mowing to 0.125 inch or less. Used as an overseed with ryegrass or bentgrass, mow at heights compatible with those species. Adequate fertility and moisture is required to support active dense growth
